MIL Awareness Champions

MEDIA INFORMATION LITERACY (MIL) AWARENESS PROJECT (MAP)

- a social project that aims to raise Media and Information Literacy

(MIL) champions, who will educate children in their local communities. We will monitor their project through pictures and videos report. Also, we will create a website whereby basic and advanced knowledge on MIL would be learned and evaluated. In the end, children have the capacity to verify information online and can access not harmful educational content.

Focus

Children and Youth in Nigeria

In Nigeria, awareness of MIL and its importance is very low. Our initial idea was to create a safer internet space for the Nigerian child, only to see that the Nigerian Child isn’t even aware of what internet space is. It is a major issue because sooner or later they would be exposed to the internet, and they might also fall into the harmful space if they are not educated and informed of MIL. This is the reason why we are raising champions, who will help evangelize and teach MIL in local communities. We also saw that MIL could help children with learning disabilities learn better and in a fun way. We will also include children with a disability during the implementation phase.

Our desired partners are:

  • Google (Google scholar/Google for kids);

  • Encarta;

  • Societies and organizations for disabled children;

  • Nonprofit organizations working with children such as One African Child, Sozo Networks, Steering for Greatness Foundation; Children foods and beverage brands such as Cadbury and Nestle Company;

  • Research, digital and information institutes;
