Gender Conversation

Ending Conflict That Arises From Gender Conversation Via The Internet

- the project centers around providing safe space for gender conversation and rights of women as humans, it advocates gender equality, freedom of speech, mutual respect as basic proof of human

decency and we expect to create an online space and offline event where women and men talk freely about gender, social role, stereotypes, etc, without disrespecting, bullying or being disrespected or bullied. It does these essentially focusing on and exploring sexism in online conversations; how women are depicted in media/online content, how to

detect sexist content, how to respond to sexist content on social media.

Focus

Nigeria, although the internet makes it possible for people from other places to also benefit of it.

Our aim is to build a community of people knowledgeable enough to identify sexism, politely

respond to it, advocate against it and promote gender equality.

In line with UNESCO Media Information Literacy work on how we access, use and contribute content wisely within our rights and promotion of equality and Sustainable Development Goal 5 on gender equality, our project will work on how men and women contribute and use content wisely on gender equality both online and offline. We will focus on gender depiction in media, sexism in online comments. Our work provides research and fact-based content for discussion, giving

our community access to factual information, as opposed to mere emotion and culture based conversations. Interventions around safe space for gender conversations have, more often than not, hinged their basis on contrary viewpoint instead of factual viewpoint and we want to bridge that gap.

Online conversations around gender is a global topic of interest and gender issues, as global, as they are, are routed differently from one community to another based on cultural and religious dispositions of the people. To have effective, peaceful conversations, therefore, we believe the discussion has to be taken away from religious and cultural sentimental reach to a logical,  speculation free, factual space while cultivating a culture of politeness and decency void.
