Small Refugee

- a digital platform that provides multimedia learning resources and online assistance to help refugee children complete their school studies in their native language. At the same time, the platform provides psychological support and grows community spirit through peer-to-peer learning and highlighting the success stories to motivate students to study and achieve their fullest potential.

Focus

Current Syrian refugee children (6-12 years old) living in Turkey.

In the longer term - Native Arabic speaking refugee children from Syria, Palestine, Iraq, Iran, and Somalia.

The project reacts with one of the most difficult challenges in the world which is to provide basic education to the refugees children all around the world and is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education for all. Among 22.5 million refugees in the world, more than half of them are children. They are forced to leave their homes and everything behind not because they want to but as a means to escape conflict, violence and persecution. Many have experienced profound physical and emotional traumas. Some have missing years of school, because they found themselves in a new environment where they are taught in a language different from their native language.

They need at least two years to understand their new environment, understand the local language to fully integrate into the society. Far distance between their camps and the schools and lack of resources to cover for school supplies make their situation even more difficult. “Small Refugee” project team is working to combat these problems with the use the digital technology to provide high-quality basic education online along with building a strong community of learners. Our first step are the Syrian refugees in Turkey.

We are looking towards securing partnerships with companies that have the same vision of changing lives through education.

Our main goals for partnerships are:

1) obtaining accreditation for the curriculum provided through our platform and becoming eligible to issue official certificates to our students upon completion of their studies;

2) partnering with education content producers to enrich the multimedia used in the courses and entertainment

3) partnering with professional psychologists and educators to provide psychological help to our students ;

4) partnering with existing companies and NGOs for promotion of our platform to reach out to large numbers of refugee families;

5) Internet connection at the Syrian camps in Turkey we should think on a partnership with a network provider in that area.
